Hemel Hempstead Rovers 2 Sun Sports 2                    1955/56                      HCL Div One

Sun draw a tough game

All things considered, a draw was a fair result to a hard fought game.
Sun had the advantage of the slope in the first half and had the bulk of the play, but the second half favoured the Rovers and Sun were hard pressed towards the end.
The Rovers goalkeeper came under two spells of bombardment in the first half and Sun could have made their position secure by half time.
However, it was Rovers who took the lead, a free kick in the 13th minute leading to a melee in which Groom netted.
At 20 minutes, the ball rolled across an open Rovers' goalmouth but no Sun player could get to it in time.
With Sun attacking hard, an equaliser was only a matter of time and it came in the 23rd minute when Phil Bass worked his way through and followed up to score after his first shot had been parried.
For the remainder of the half it was nearly all Sun.
For the first ten minutes of the second half, the Rovers threatened to score, but Sun came into the picture again with T Barber getting a ball back from the by-line for Phil Bass to find the net with a header from 12 yards.
Rovers' equaliser resulted from another free kick which was headed in.
