Leavesden 6 Sun Sports 1                              1955/56                                   HCL Div One

Honours for Leavesden?

Unlikely to win the County League, Leavesden are at last strong candidates for runners-up, in this, their first season the league.
On Saturday they took a step nearer to honours with a big win over another local side, Sun Sports.
The score, in actual fact, does Sun less credit than they deserve for they took an early lead through Willis and the equaliser - a penalty by Ken Wicks - was scored against the run of play.
In many ways, however, Sun have but themselves to blame.
Their prime failing was a woeful weakness in shooting.
After the equaliser both sides had their moments both in football and chances.
Sun did not make the most of opportunities.
Not so Leavesden, who went in front with a goal from Henderson just prior to half time, and notched further successes by way of Henderson, Stevens (2), and Young during the second period.
Just to give an idea of how misleading the score was, however, Leavesden were penned in their own half for a full quarter of an hour at the start of the second half.
If anything the Sun wingers let the side down.
They were too ponderous to be effective against Stewart and Richardson, despite the openings schemed for them by Willis and Bown, backed by Ron Moulder, who was the best player on the field.
