Double triumph keeps Sun in promotion race

Sun Sports made sure of maintaining their place among the top three in Division One of the Herts County League on Saturday by defeating Leverstock Green in the worst conditions of the season.
Both teams did their best to overcome the uneven and slippery pitch, but mistakes and sliced kicking were unavoidable.
Leverstock Green staged some meritable recoveries which belied their foot of the table position, but it was an expected double triumph for Sun.
Brian Adkins was in fine form and scored a hat-trick.
After opening with some forceful play, Sun wen into the lead after 31 minutes when John Benning and John Fisher fed Adkins, who cut in and scored.
Green  tried to hit back, but their best chance of the half struck the upright and went into touch.
Sun increased their lead after eight minutes of the second half after Leverstock Green failed to make use of a free kick near to goal.
Adkins put a pass through from the half way line and a 40 yard run by Fisher produced a heavy drive to the back of Green's net.
Trailing 2-0, the home team made two good efforts and succeeded in getting the ball home, only to be disappointed by the referee's whistle for offside.
Sun could not afford to let up and added after 61 minutes they added a third when Benning gave a good ball to Adkins, who sped round two defenders and crashed the ball home.
Leverstock succeeded in scoring four minutes later through a concentrated effort, but there was more action to come from Sun.
They missed a penalty kick after Fisher had been brought down in the area and then Adkins went on to complete his hat-trick in the 72nd minute with a shot from the edge of the box.
