Peverley Press 2 Sun Sports 3 1953/54 St Barts Printers Cup Semi Final
To play at Selhurst Park - Sun in Final
Sun Sports reached the final of this competition by giving Peverley their first taste of defeat on Saturday in a fast and exciting game in which extra time was needed to settle the issue.
The final takes place on the Crystal Palace ground on April 22nd.
Peverley, a side with plenty of dash, applied spells of pressure but the Sun defence was equal to the calls made upon it.
Sun, with Bob Barnett taking the ball out of awkward situations, and the forwards being on the target, went into the lead in the tenth minute through Peter Watt.
He beat three defenders before sending in an oblique shot.
The home side were in aggressive mood in the second half and they soon levelled the score.
Sun rallied and in the 65th minute they regained the lead through Peter Watt, who converted a Lamport corner.
But twelve minutes later Peverley equalised and a struggle for supremacy ensued.
A minute before time Ashcroft sent in a fierce drive which hit the underside of the crossbar, but appeals for a goal were not acceded to.
The first half of extra time saw no alteration to the score, but in the second half, after five minutes, a neat passing movement between Boyle, Watt and D Cutler led to the latter netting the decider.
