Sun Sports 0 Hemel Hempstead Rovers 1                 1960/61                               HCL Prem

Rovers luck sinks Sun

The good luck which brings goals and wins matches was, for Sun, notable only for it's absence.
What little there was rooted itself firmly in the Rovers' goalmouth and refused to allow the ball in.
Title chasing Rovers were stretched to the full limit by lowly Sun and were fortunate to take both points.
But their usual opening storm was well repulsed by the home defenders, who rose magnificently to the occasion, and at this stage Sun looked the more dangerous side of the two.
The first indication that fortune was not smiling upon them came when both centre forward Barber and left winger Wise went close without succeeding.
The onslaught continued and Johnny Wise was wretchedly unfortunate with a 25 yard shot which hit the underside of the bar and dropped on to the safe side of the goal line to be hastily cleared.
After this Sun's shots on goal were strictly rationed and they were forced back on to defence.
After the break Rovers got right on top and forced a series of corners, forcing agile Cliff Langley in the home goal to make several spectacular saves.
After 65 minutes Spurr was brought down in the area and Cox saw his spot kick stopped on the line by Langley.
Shortly after the close Spurr took a scrambled clearance and coolly lobbed the ball over the advancing Langley for Doydge to run it into the net.
