Sun Sports 2 De Havilland (Hatfield) 3 1952/53 HCL Div One
A winner in the last minute
- A fluke at that!
A goal in the last kick, and a miss-kick at that, robbed Sun of a point on Saturday against a weightier De Havilland side.
In fairness to De Havillands however, it should be said that they deserved to win, if only for the chances they made yet squandered.
Three penalties also came their way, but only one was converted.
On the other hand, Sun tried to combat forceful play with pattern weaving football, which did not always pay.
After an even start, Sun went in front when a Barber-Bass-Collins movement ended with the latter scoring from close in.
Despite the fact that De Havilland were awarded a penalty - well saved by Storer - there was no alteration to the score in the first half.
De Havilland were more fortunate with their next spot kick, Greenham converting in the 55th minute.
Five minutes later they missed completely with the third penalty, but took the lead through a curling ground shot midway through the half.
With ten minutes left, Edwards put the Sun on terms again.
Fate, however, had one more blow to deal the Sun.
On time, Inglis "fluked"in a shot to give De Havilland victory.
