Sun Sports 2 Saffron Walden Town 1                      1957/58                                HCL Premier

Success at last for Sun

It was quite a day for Sun Sports on Saturday.
Not only did their first team break their losing sequence by beating Saffron Walden, but their Reserves also chalked up their third win over St Helens Reserves.
The first team were well worth their tonic win on a treacherous pitch, which provided a major problem for both sides.
Indeed, with a little steadiness and thought in the Saffron Walden goal area they might well have had more goals to their credit.
In a side that showed up well, Tom Rolfe took the skidding ball very safely in goal, Roger Munn displayed a good turn of speed at left back, and Frank Smith was the chief prompter of the attack from the right half position.
Sun kept most of the play for a long spell in the first half, but it was 27 minutes before they scored.
Then Kenny, a tireless worker, provided the through pass for an improving Les Slade to apply the finishing touch.
Saffron Walden were on terms eight minutes later, and in the second half both goals had some anxious moments, although Sun were getting twice as much of their forward play as their opponents.
The winning goal came in the 78th minute when Patterson sped along the left wing and then squared the ball for Adkins to touch it home.
