Sun Sports 3 Odhams 1                          1949/50                        St Barts Printers Cup Semi final

Sun again in the Final

The Sun, holders of the St Barts (Printers) Cup; reached the final again this year when, on Saturday, they defeated Odhams, but extra time was needed to settle the issue.
Odhams opened the scoring within three minutes, Wakelin placing the ball in the corner of the net.
Ten minutes later, Blackwell, following a good run on the right wing, put the score on an even footing.
The second half proved Sun to be well on top, and they were continually on the offensive, but shots were either blocked or well saved by the Odhams goalkeeper.
The home side continued top exert pressure during extra time, and midway through the first half Chamberlain found an opening close in and put them ahead.
During the second period the Sun centre forward clinched matters when he scored from 20 yards out.

Mirror Pictorial 1 Sun Sports 0                 1949/50                           St Barts Printers Cup Final

Sun wasted chances in Cup Thriller

The most thrilling game seen at Vicarage Road this season was an opinion expressed concerning this "Inky-Way" Final.
What both sides lacked in craft they more than made up for in enthusiasm.
One team had to win, but what a pity it had to be Mirror Pictorial.
Their second half performance did not justify victory, nor, in the eyes of many, was their goal legitimate.
It came as the result of a handling infringement, but the referee's decision is final, and after all, he was on the spot!
In fairness to the Mirror they did have what seemed a good goal disallowed in the first half.
Sun took second place in the opening half, but this was not comparable with their superiority in the second period.
Goals were missed by the score, and when the forwards of both sides were on the target there were two able goalkeepers to beat.
Twelve minutes from the end and out came the Sun keeper.
He failed to punch clear; the ball went to Kerley - Goal!!
Sun put everything into the attack, and when they were awarded a corner, there were twenty players in the penalty area, but it was to no avail.
