Sun Sports 5 St Helens 1 1951/52 HCL Div One
Depleted Saints were well beaten
Sun Sports were worthy winners in this Division One game on Saturday, St Helens, who started the game with only eight men, never had their full complement of players on the field, for the most part, being two short.
In such a predicament, the Saints did well to keep the score as low as they did, but naturally enough, the Sun did not play with the same determination as perhaps they would have done had the visitors fielded a full side.
The game began on an aggressive note for the Sun, who in the 20th minute went ahead through Eldridge.
Two minutes later, Compton was put away to record the second.
McDonald reaped the third success with a fierce drive, and before the interval, repeated the performance to put the home side four up.
St Helens reduced the arrears in the second half, but although they defended stubbornly they had to concede another goal before the end.
Eldridge was the scorer.
