Dickinson's (Croxley) 6 Sun Sports 4 1953/54 Herts Intermediate Cup
Second half sensation
A sensational second half rally by Sun - four goals in as many minutes - could not gain for them a pass in the third round of this completion.
They had left it too late, although things might have been different had the finishing been better.
The ground slope and the strong-ish wind dictated the position of play to a large extent, and once Sun's raids were spent, Dickinson's got on top and before half time found the net five times, thanks to good forward combination.
In this workman-like attack, Deeley was outstanding.
Early in the second half Sun were in determined mood.
They forced two quick corners, and Attree brought out the best of the home goalkeeper.
Dickinson's, however, kept their goal intact until almost midway through the second half.
Then Noble hit the woodwork with a free kick and Attree ran in to convert.
A minute late, Attree again found the net, and then yet a minute later Sun narrowed the gap even more with a goal from O'Doherty.
Yet a minute later and Wyatt broke free to score.
Now Sun looked to have a chance, but such was not to be.
Three minutes from time Dickinson's netted their sixth.
