Royston Town 2 Sun Sports 1                         1955/56                                        HCL Div One

A lesson Sun's defenders must take to heart

Sun defenders should have learned a lesson from Saturday's visit to Royston.
Just to remind them it is: Don't dilly-dally with the ball in the penalty area.
Until ten minutes from time they had obeyed this defensive maxim and Royston never looked liked scoring, but then the Sun defence forgot the golden rule and Royston took advantage of two chances to steal the points.
The outcome was rather harsh, for Sun had played very attractively in midfield, and the exchanges generally were very even.
They had been rewarded for some good approach work in the 51st minute when O'Doherty gave Phil Bass the chance to pick his spot, and the inside man made no mistake.
Bass had a similar chance shortly afterwards but the home goalkeeper made a good save.
Eight minutes from the end, Lawson equalised for Royston, and with only three minutes left, Middlemass scored the decider.
