Sun Sports 3 Coates FC 1 1956/57 Natsopa Charity Shield Semi Final
Newstead trio saw Sun through to the final
Three goals by inside right George Newstead saw Sun through to the final of the Natsopa Charity Shield on Saturday.
In getting there, the players won their way through three rounds and recorded a goal average of 14 for and 2 against.
The final will take place at Malden during Easter.
This was a well fought cup-tie with plenty of enthusiasm.
Coates, who occupy a high position in the Premier Division of the Bromley League, provided the stiffest opposition the local side has yet faced in the cup.
Coates opened the game strongly and had numerous shots on target.
Play was fast, and it was Sun who opened the scoring in the 18th minute, Cliff Stevens passing for Newstead to drive the ball home.
The visitors proved very active after this setback, and after 23 minutes their left winger scored from well out.
Sun were soon back in the lead after half time, P Fisher hit the crossbar with a 25 yard free kick and the rebound was promptly returned into the goal by Newstead.
After a period of midfield play, Sun made quite sure after 69 minutes when a good centre from K Noble found Newstead, who completed his hat-trick.
Coates had the chance to reduce the arrears shortly before the end with a penalty, but the shot went over the bar.
