Sun Sports 5 Royston Town 2 1954/55 HCL Div One
Sun attack livens up
Sun showed decidedly improved form on Saturday.
The forward line was much more lively, and if this had been matched with more accurate finishing, then Sun would have scored a more convincing victory.
For the opening fifteen minutes, the home side did pretty well as they liked without scoring.
Many times, however, the young Royston 'keeper was called upon to make fine saves.
Not until the 32nd minute did Sun score.
Then Hathaway found the net with the Royston defence spread-eagled.
Shortly afterwards Lamport got the ball into the net but was given offside.
He had better luck three minutes from half time making no mistake with a good ground shot.
Royston began the second half with new life and threatened to score before the game evened out.
Lamport put Sun further ahead, and this lead was not reduced until the 78th minute when Royston were awarded a penalty for "hands".
The ball struck the crossbar and rebounded into play, it was passed out to the left where Pitt pounced on it to score.
Sun were not slow in retaliating, Beach being the scorer.
Royston had the final with a goal from Myers two minutes from time.
