Swillett 6 Sun Sports 5                                  1954/55                       Rickmansworth Charity Cup

Sun lose in cup thriller

Swillett must have played well to win Saturday's first round tie, even if extra time was necessary, against a County League side.
The losers praised them and the game generally, which came under the heading of "Grand Cup Football".
It was definitely a game of fluctuating fortunes, Swillett drew first blood with a 60 second penalty, converted by Paver following a handling infringement.
They continued to hold sway for a time while Sun got used to the small pitch, but by the interval the scores were level at 2-2.
Sun took the lead in the second half, and for the second time in the match Smith hit the woodwork.
But before full time Swillett snatched a breakaway equaliser.
Up to this stage, Sun had engineered more openers.
Not so in the first period of extra time when Swillett scored a couple of quick goals.
Sun, however, fought back strongly and once more the scores were levelled after which they again dominated the play only to meet with stubborn defensive resistance.
Thus it was from a breakaway goal that Swillett got the decider, Dearman misjudging a long shot which he appeared to have covered.
Swillett's scorers were Paver (2), Joyce (2), Lacey and O'Brien, while netting for the Sun were Hathaway (3), Palmer and Bass.
